What is Vedic Rounding?

Vedic Meditation teacher Kate Cliff of Kate Cliff Meditation on the South Coast

Vedic Rounding is the integration of a very specific, gentle yoga asana sequence, pranayama (breathing techniques) followed by Vedic meditation, which has been passed down through our lineage.

This technique is designed to gently open up the body, prepare the mind and body to get into meditation deeper and quicker and unlock and release layers of stress, tension and fatigue from the nervous system at an accelerated rate, providing an experience of even deeper rest and relaxation.

Vedic Rounding deepens meditation by preparing the nervous system to go deeper, faster, and more smoothly into a transcendent state, removes layers of stress and is especially beneficial when you’re feeling agitated, stressed, or blocked mentally, balances the nervous system – the sequence balances sympathetic (fight/flight) and parasympathetic (rest/digest) systems – increases oxygenation, calms the mind, and reduces anxiety, enhances restfulness and accelerates stress release.

When we round we are gently opening up the body so that our consciousness can become aware of the internal repair work that needs to be done. We physically hold stress, tension and fatigue in our physical body, and as we gently open our body in this way, these are brought into our awareness and added to the to do list. Next we engage in breathing techniques which allow old oxygen out of the body and new oxygen, or prana (meaning life force) into our mind and body. Doing this in a hinterland setting allows high quality prana into our mind and body. Every 30 days there is a whole cellular regeneration process going on in the body and we have a say as to what that cell is made up of – we want that cell to be made up of high quality prana.

Vedic Rounding is a technique that can be taught to anyone, whether they have prior experience with yoga or not. The poses are very gentle, and can be modified to accomodate injuries or discomfort in the body, and this sequence is particularly regenerate for those that are currently experiencing illness or injury. Importantly we are working with your body where it is at. I learnt to round when my body was experiencing pain from injuries I had sustained. Learning to round was a profoundly healing and opening practice for my body.

Once you have learnt to Vedic round you can then add Vedic rounding into your daily practice at home. Having access to this technique anytime was incredibly empowering for me when recovering from injuries, both mentally and physically and to manage pain for which I was unable to take painkillers.

If you’ve already learnt Vedic Meditation, on The Byron Bay Renew Retreat 3-6 August 2025, you will learn to round. You will love learning this addition to your practice.

If you’ve already learnt to round prior to the retreat this is your opportunity to dive deeply into your rounding practice in a supported environment.

Vedic Rounding is a powerful technique that provides extraordinary outcomes and I can’t wait to see what this brings into your life.
